Committed to conduct a policy of protection of life and the environment

The policy of Pertamina is based on the strict observance of international and national requirements applied to sea and river vessels, including requirements on crew composition and qualification. In addition, as part of company’s obligations to create safe conditions for human beings and the environment, the company deems that several addition types of equipment and procedures are necessary for the vessels that are chartered by Pertamina or that go through the sea terminals that either belong to company or are administered by it.

These requirements and priority on the aforementioned vessels are based on he current experience acquired in this sector. Pertamina acknowledges that the final objectives of a policy of safety can also be achieved through other means, which will depend on the shipping techniques employed and practice adopted shipping companies. These factors will be taken into account in the evaluation of vessels, but in most cases the non-observance of generally accepted requirements will result in refusal to consider the vessel for chartering. The non-observance of so-called priorities will be regarded as a negative condition, which will be considered together with all other factors that determine a vessel’s worthiness. It should also be noted that the fulfillment of all requirements and priorities is not a guarantee of acceptance of a vessel, because other factors are also taken into account in consideration, such as the ship owner, former inspection result, commercial factors, vessel history, etc.

Pertamina is conducting a policy of unification of its requirements and those of other petroleum companies and of OCIMF. Pertamina uses the experiences and practice of OCIMF in its recommendations pertaining to the operation of tankers and terminals.
